Mustang vs Camaro

If you have a thirst for speed, then only a true sports car can satisfy your needs. The 2017 Ford Mustang and 2017 Chevrolet Camaro are two of the most notable sports cars on the market. How can you know which vehicle is right for you? Winner Ford has put together this detailed Mustang vs Camaro comparison so our customers in the Middletown, Odessa, and Dover areas can learn the important differences between each vehicle.

Let's begin by examining performance.

High-Speed Performance

With a 3.7L Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing 6-cylinder engine, the 2017 Ford Mustang can generate some serious power. 300 horsepower, to be exact. Paired with the available SelectShift Automatic Transmission with Paddle Shifters-which allows drivers to choose between an Automatic or Semi-Automatic Sport mode-achieving top speeds will be quicker than ever before.

Selectable-Effort Electric Power-Assist Steering allows drivers to choose their own steering mode, which can range from the effortless Comfort mode to a more challenging Sport mode. No matter what mode you choose, your Mustang will provide optimum control.

The engine in the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro is smaller, at only a 2.0L and 4-cylinder. This difference in engine size is apparent in horsepower, which maxes out for the Camaro at only 275. Variable Valve Timing mechanics are used to improve performance, but still manage to fall short of the competitor's engine.

Ford Mustang vs. Chevy Camaro: Safety

Though the Ford Mustang is a sports vehicle, it still maintains safety as a top priority. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the 2017 Ford Mustang a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating with top commendations in every category.

The Mustang is designed with a Personal Safety System™ for the driver and front-seat passenger. This system is comprised of a network of complex sensors that regulate airbag deployment and safety belts based on the size of the occupants. An SOS Post-Crash Alert System™ will automatically turn on hazard lights and repeatedly sound the horn in the event of an accident, making it easier for responders to find your vehicle.

The NHTSA gave the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating, but gave it lower marks in the frontal crash rating. The Camaro also includes a wide network of airbags, but drivers may be vulnerable to injury during front-end collisions. A brief trial of OnStar is offered with the Camaro, but once it expires, post-crash alert systems are only available through additional monthly subscription payments.

Technology

Passengers can ride in comfort with all the technology available in the Ford Mustang. SYNC® enables drivers to make hands-free phone calls, control music, and perform many other functions with just the sound of their voice. Passengers can connect USB-compatible devices using the two smart charging USB ports in the Mustang. On those longer drives, the 6-way powered driver's seat with lumbar support can increase comfort.

The 2017 Ford Mustang also incorporates Track Apps for drivers who are looking to test their vehicle's limits on the race track. Launch Control optimizes brakes, traction, and powertrain control to engage the fastest, smoothest start. When your Mustang is in gear, you can lock the front tires with Electric Line Lock to warm your rear ones. Performance metrics will be displayed on your instrument cluster.

While the Camaro doesn't include any technologies like Track Apps, it does include Chevrolet MyLink. Like SYNC®, MyLink connects to your phone and controls calls and the radio with voice commands. Unfortunately, the Camaro doesn't include any USB charging ports.
