While these lights can be helpful in letting drivers know about their engine components and any issues, there are so many to keep track of. Well, we're here to help you understand your instrument cluster a little better. This is your 2017 Ford F-150 dashboard symbols guide.
Warning Lights & Indicator Lights
Â
If you don't already know, there are two different types of dashboard lights that appear on your dashboard: warning lights and indicator lights. Warning lights are what you'd think they are-a warning. They're usually red or orange and they notify you of a malfunction or failure with an important component of your vehicle. When this light flashes, it implies that there is a major issue in real-time, and you should take measures to prevent any more damage.
Indicator lights are lighter in color, usually green or blue. These lights are simple reminders. When you activate a system, an indicator light will appear to keep you informed of the system or component that is currently running. Now that you know the difference between these lights, you're ready to learn what they mean, and what you should do when they appear.
Ford F-150 Warning Lights
- Engine Coolant Temperature. This light will pop on if it senses that your engine coolant temperature is running high. If this occurs, you should stop your engine and let it cool. If the problem continues, contact your Ford dealer.
- Engine Oil Warning. If your engine oil warning light appears, it indicates a malfunction. Pull your vehicle over to safety and shut your engine off. Check the oil level and see if it's low. If the light stays on, despite having an adequate oil level, seek out your Ford dealer.
- Battery Warning Light. When this light appears, it implies that there's a malfunction. Turn off all of the unnecessary electrical equipment and contact your Ford dealer.
- Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced Power/Electronic Throttle Control. If this light illuminates, your system detected an issue with your powertrain or your all-wheel drive system. Contact your Ford dealer as soon as possible.
