The 2018 F-150 earned a five out of five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). It has also received the highest possible rating of Good in the five standard crash tests from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It is a top safety pick.
This truck scored five out of five on Frontal Crash and Side Crash and four out of five on Rollover by the NHTSA. For the IIHS' safety tests, it scored Good on Moderate Overlap Front Test Results, Rear Crash Protection Results, Roof Strength Test Results, Side Impact Test Results and Small Overlap Front Test Results.
Standard Safety
All trims of the 2018 Ford F-150 include four types of airbags and a rearview camera with dynamic hitch assist. Brake assist and traction control are also standard. Each trim includes daytime running lights to reduce the risk of accidents in foggy or precipitous weather. The base model XL 2WD Regular Cab with 6.5' box also has optional integrated turn signal mirrors.
Available Safety
Moving up to a mid-range trim such as the Lariat 2WD Supercab 8' box and you'll get a rear head airbag. Integrated turn signal mirrors are standard here, as are adjustable pedals to customize to the driver's height. A blind spot monitor and cross-traffic alert are optional for this version of the F-150.
The ultimate trim of this model is the Limited 4WD SuperCrew 5.5' Box. It adds pedestrian detection to warn drivers of approaching pedestrians, then brakes the truck to reduce the impact. A 360-degree camera system alerts drivers to dangers from every side.
Lane keeping assist helps drivers stay alert and in their own lane. Adaptive cruise control adds stop-and-go technology to make traffic jam driving easier and safer. The blind spot monitor alerts drivers to vehicles or stationary objects they can't see but that are posing a risk.
