Ford Explorer Trim Levels Power & Performance

The base level Ford Explorer and the following XLT trim both come with the 3.5L V6 engine, which delivers 290 horsepower. The next engine, available at all trims but standard with the Ford Explorer Limited, is a 2.3L EcoBoost® that provides 280 horsepower. The most powerful of the engine choices is the 3.5L EcoBoost® V6, available at the Sport and Platinum levels, which adds 365 horsepower to the vehicle's abilities. Each engine option is paired with the six-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission.

Comfort & Convenience

The Ford Explorer base and XLT trims come outfitted with cloth seating materials. The Limited features perforated leather-trimmed seats. The Sport trim features unique perforated leather-trimmed seats with red accent stitching. The Platinum trim features leather seats with quilted inserts and "Platinum" embroidery.

The Limited trim and higher come with the Remote Start and the Reverse Sensing System. The Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Sport Information System, and the Auto-Dimming Rearview Mirror are optional on the Ford Explorer Sport, but they're standard on the Ford Explorer Platinum trim. Both of these trims also feature the Intelligent Access with Push-Button Start.

Media & Technology

Both the base trim and the XLT come with the SYNC® system and a six-speaker sound system. The Ford Explorer Limited and above come with the Sony® Premium Audio 12-speaker system and the SYNC® 3 system that features a larger screen and more connectivity options. The Limited, Sport, and Platinum trims also feature the voice-activated Navigation System.

In terms of media options, each vehicle comes with an AM/FM radio, a CD player, and external media connections through an auxiliary input and a USB port. A six-month trial subscription of SiriusXM® Satellite Radio is available once you upgrade to the XLT trim. This feature includes access to more than 150 different stations of audio entertainment.
