Are you driving a brand new Ford Focus? Like any new car, it's essential to keep your vehicle under a strict maintenance routine, especially if you want it to run like new for many years to come. The nice thing is that modern vehicles are designed to run for many years, and be reliable for well over 150,000 miles, but only if you keep up with your schedule of regular check-ups.

For our customers who live in Odessa, Dover, and Middletown, we're pleased to present this 2017 Ford Focus maintenance schedule. If you stick with it, you'll be sure to have a car that you'll cherish for years, and will get you where you need to go like you just left the showroom floor.

When to Have Your Oil Changed

A solid guideline for having oil changed on a modern vehicle is around every 7,000 miles or 12 months. However, the current generation of Ford vehicles are equipped with an intelligent oil life monitor system. This system tracks your oil levels and how well it's doing its job, and lets you know when it's time to check it and have it changed.

Just watch for the monitor to appear on your dashboard light and get your oil changed at that point. If you don't see it come on for 12 months, you should probably have it changed anyway

10,000-Mile Service

At 10,000 miles, and every 10,000 miles thereafter, you'll want to have your tires rotated and inspected, get your oil filter changed, inspect your hoses and coolant system, exhaust system, heat shields, and brake systems. This includes not only your brakes themselves, but hoses, lines, and a parking brake. You should also have all non-sealed joints and linkages lubricated, including ball and suspension joints, steering linkage, u-joints, half-shafts, and drive shafts. Finally, a multi-point inspection should be undertaken.

20,000 and 30,000 Miles

At 20,000 miles, in addition to repeating your 10,000-mile servicing, you should have your cabin air filter replaced if your car has one. At 30,000 miles, you should have your engine air filter swapped out. Your cabin filter should be replaced every 20,000 miles and your engine filter every 30,000 miles.

100,000 Miles-Plus

Starting at 100,000 miles, you'll need to have more major work done. Every 100,000 miles, you'll need new spark plugs. Starting at 100,000 miles and every 50,000 miles thereafter, you'll need to change the orange coolant in your system. You'll also want, at 100,000 miles and every 20,000 miles thereafter, to inspect your drive belts and change them as needed. If you haven't changed your drive belt by 150,000 miles, you'll want to change it at this point.
