Modern vehicles are designed to last for many years, but keeping them running, such as new requires a strict routine of regular maintenance and upkeep. Many people think that all you need to do to keep a car running is to have the oil changed every 3,000 miles. Not only is there a bit more to it than that, 3,000 miles is actually far more than is needed for oil changes. Most modern vehicles are designed to run for at least six months or up to 7,000 miles or more between oil changes.
If you live in Middletown, Odessa, or Dover and are driving a 2017 Ford Focus, here's a quick guide to how often you should have your vehicle serviced to keep it running in factory condition for many years to come.
Regular Oil Changes and Service
Approximately every 6,000 miles or every year, you should have your engine oil changed, as well as having your oil filter replaced. Your Fusion will use up to six quarts of oil. Also at these intervals, you should have your tires inspected and rotated, have your exhaust system and head shields checked, and get a lube job for your steering linkage, suspension, and ball joints, drive shafts and half-shafts, and u-joints.
Your brakes should be given a thorough inspection, including your parking brake and brake lines. Your cooling system and hoses should be inspected, and your vehicle should have an overall thorough multi-point inspection.
Additional Service Intervals
Besides these regular services, you should have additional services performed as follows:
20,000 miles: You should have your cabin air filter replaced.
- 30,000 miles: Replace your engine air filter.
- 40,000 miles: Cabin air filter should be replaced.
- 60,000 miles: Cabin and engine air filters should both be replaced.
- 80,000 miles: You should have your cabin air filter replaced.
- 90,000 miles: Replace your engine air filter.
- 100,000 miles: Replace spark plugs, cabin air filter, orange coolant, and inspect your drive belt.
- 120,000 miles: Cabin and engine air filters need replacing, and inspect the drive belt.
- 140,000 miles: Cabin air filter must be replaced, and inspect drive belt once more.
- 150,000 miles: Change coolant, replace drive belt if you haven't already, engine air filter, and change transmission fluid.
Essentially, your cabin air filter needs to be changed every 20,000 miles, your engine air filter needs to be changed every 30,000 miles, your spark plugs are good for 100,000 miles, and your drive belt can last anywhere from 100,000 to 150,000 miles. Your coolant is good for the first 100,000 miles of ownership, but should then be changed every 50,000 miles thereafter.
