Hackers have already proven they can exploit security loopholes in vehicles with internet connectivity and computerized controls. It’s one of the biggest concerns critics have of self-driving cars. Once we put our safety in the hands of machines, black hats can put us in danger from behind their keyboards.

It gets even worse than that, though.

A recent paper published by computer scientists from University of Washington, University of Michigan, Stony Brook University, and University of California Berkeley demonstrated a technique hackers could use to attack autonomous cars using road signs.

Stop signs with strategically-placed stickers, made to look like graffiti art reading “LOVE” and “HATE” were able to confuse the vehicle’s sensors into thinking a Stop sign was a 45 MPH sign.

What’s the good news here?

These white-hat hackers conducted this research so automakers could use it in making their autonomous vehicles impervious to malicious hacking. It’s going to be a long time before we see Ford models so intelligent their drivers can take their eyes off the road, so this preemptive strike against hacking is really a victory for the future of advanced vehicle security.

Apple Scrapple Festival

Bridgeville is known both for its apples from the T.S. Smith and Sons Farm and scrapple from RAPA Scrapple-so what better festival than one that celebrates both?

This festival raises awareness about the agricultural roots of lower Delaware, but most importantly, it’s a whole lot of fun. On Friday evening, the festival kicks off with the opening of the carnival and food court, and traditional street dance. On Saturday morning, start your day with an all-you-can eat scrapple breakfast-and then keep eating from vendors serving apple fritters, oyster sandwiches, ice cream, and much more. Games for the kids, carnival rides, scrapple carving, live entertainment, and more will fill the streets for the rest of the weekend!

Lewes Dragon Boat Festival

The Lewes Dragon Boat Festival was started as a way to raise money for Sussex Academy, a charter school serving grades 6-12 in Sussex County. A dragon boat is essentially a 40-foot long canoe that is paddled by 20 people. Team will compete in a 500-meter race ending at Canalfront Park. The best part? Anyone can participate! Check out the festival website to form a racing team, or bring the whole family along to Canalfront Park to watch the festivities. Children’s activities and vendors will be set up throughout the park for you to enjoy while you watch.

Sea Witch Festival

Rehoboth Beach & Dewey Beach, Delaware

This Spooktacular festival celebrates autumn on the beach. Tons of vendors will be present with delicious food to enjoy throughout the festivities as well as live bandstand entertainment. All are welcome to enter the best costumed dog contest; costume parade and contest; best fiddler, banjo player, mandolin, and bluegrass group competition; and participate in scarecrow-making and beach games. The 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor is a mean off-roading beast, purpose-built for high-speed racing in the desert. Its snarling engine produces 510 pound-feet of torque and 450 horsepower to tear up even the toughest terrain, gliding over bumps with FOX Racing Shox.

After a long test drive from Barstow, CA to Las Vegas without using any roads, KBB.com editor Zach Vlasuk had this to say:

“After logging a fair amount of seat time, I think the key takeaway from driving the Raptor is the insane level of confidence it inspires. What that translates into on the dirt is approaching sections with way more speed than you think you ought to. The Raptor pulls you through.”

One of the best things about the Air Mobility Command Museum is that you can bring your pet as long as they’re leashed and you clean up after them.
